Roldan arrives in Pakistan

KARACHI: The Cuban boxing coach Francisco Hernandez Roldan, whose’ services have been hired by Pakistan for an initial term of one year, arrived here on Tuesday.
He was received by the secretary of the Referees/Judges Commission of the Pakistan Boxing Federation (PBF) Ghulam Hussain Patni here at the Jinnah International Airport on Tuesday morning.
Roldan has served as an assistant coach of the Cuban national boxing team for several years. The former 57 kg national champion of Cuba, Roldan is more likely to start his stint as a coach with Pakistan on October 20 with the national camp being set up here at the PSB coaching centre to make preparations for the future assignments.
Twenty-five boxers have already been shortlisted by the PBF during the national championship here two months back who will receive training under the supervision of Roldan.
An official of the PBF said that Roldan, whose’ services have been hired through the support of the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB), would be given extension in his job if his performance is satisfactory.
Meanwhile, the secretary of the PBF Akram Khan told ‘Our Sources’ that the federation is going to hold a press briefing within the next two days here in Karachi to brief the media about the Cuban coach and his meeting with the Federal Sports Minister Pir Aftab Shah Jilani which was held in Islamabad on Tuesday.
