Return of Afghan refugees from Pakistan vital: FM Qureshi

ABU DHABI: Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has categorically stated that the international community has forgotten Afghan refugees but their return to homeland from different areas of Pakistan is vital and it would be Possible with help of world.
Addressing the first session of meeting on Pakistan and Afghanistan and talking to media, he said, Pakistan is sincere and ready to cooperate with Afghanistan in rebuilding of country’s institutions and rehabilitation of Afghan brethren.
Pakistan, the foreign minister said, wants early training of Afghan forces as well as rebuilding of Afghan institutions and development work there. Peaceful and stable Afghanistan is in better interest of Pakistan as well as region, he said.
Answering to a question, he said, we would review if any application with regard to training Afghan forces is received from Afghanistan Government. The next trilateral meeting of Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan would be held in Pakistan, he said.
Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi went on to say that Pakistan and Afghanistan have so many differences therefore both countries should be treated separately. He also underscored the need of revival of Jirga system in Afghanistan.
On the other hand, US Special envoy for Pakistan and Afghanistan Richard Holbrook said that there is complete harmony between forces of Pakistan and United States of America. Todays’s meeting, he said, would be helpful to remove reservation of Pakistan with regard to infiltration from Afghanistan to Pakistan.
The military leadership of Pakistan and US are in close touch and therefore we have achieved major achievement in war against terrorism, he said. We would force Afghan forces and US forces would go into Afghanistan according to the strategy unveiled by US President Barack Obama, he said.
US Special envoy for Pakistan and Afghanistan when asked to comment about his meeting with President Asif Ali Zardari in Dubai and as well as criticism in Pakistan over drone strikes by media men, he refused to comment.
Afghanistan Foreign Minister Rangin Dadfar Spanta speaking at the occasion said that Taliban of Pakistan and Afghanistan should be treated in same manner. There is no differences between them and both organizations are terrorists, he said.
Dr. Anwar Mohammed Gargash, UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs told the participants that it is a responsibility of every Muslim to help Afghanistan in rebuilding and rehabilitation.
The meeting discussed the current situation in Pakistan, Afghanistan and ways to promote stability in both countries as well as mechanisms of coordination between the countries supporting Afghanistan and Pakistan in various fields so as to rehabilitate infrastructure and access to a better environment and a stable life.
