Replying to Malik's allegations is a waste of time: Shahbaz
06 March, 2013
LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that the situation of law and order in Punjab is much better than in other provinces, and that replying to the statements of Rehman Malik is a waste of time.
He was talking to reporters at the joining of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz by a 22-member delegation, led by Baloch leader Lashkari Raisani, in Raiwind.
To a question, the chief minister said that firearm licences to terrorists were not issued by the Punjab government but federal and Sindh governments. He said that Malik had been declared a liar by the Supreme Court. "Considering him unreliable, I will not comment on any of his remarks."
Meanwhile, addressing a public gathering at Haveli Lakha, tehsil Depalpur, the CM said that the federal government had made the lives of the citizens miserable through corruption of trillions of rupees. "Due to the inefficiency of the federal rulers, the country is facing darkness and inflation, unemployment and poverty are rampant."
He said that even thieves and dacoits would be ashamed at the way the federal rulers had plundered the hard-earned money of the masses.
He said that development activities undertaken by the Punjab government were unprecedented, and that uplift projects worth billions of rupees had been carried out in the province.
Shahbaz said that loot and corruption of the federal government had pushed the nation into problems and crises, and the country had been brought to the verge of disaster.
He said that by implementing the policy of merit, transparency and speedy completion of development schemes, the Punjab government had executed a number of mega projects in the province that had resulted in provision of relief to the masses.
The CM said that he was ready to face any punishment if corruption of even a single penny in development projects was proved against him.
He said the Pakistan People's Party would face a shameful defeat in the general election, and if the PML-N came into power, the process of development would be accelerated throughout the country, including Okara.
He said that if people gave an opportunity, darkness would be eliminated from the country within two years.
Referring to the development projects of the Punjab government, he said that due rights had been given to the masses through the Laptop Scheme, Ujala Programme, Educational Endowment Fund, subsidised Green Tractor Scheme and Self-employment Scheme. He said that polls were soon to be held in the country and the people would have to get rid of the corruption of the current rulers in the Centre. He said that Nawaz Sharif would have to be brought into power for rooting out darkness and corruption, as he was the one who gave solid economic policies to the country, constructed the motorway, gave free-of-cost land to the poor of Sindh and made Pakistan a nuclear power.
He said that innocent people were being killed in Karachi and Quetta, while the KP was also facing terrorism, but the rulers had become insensitive.
End.
