Ready to meet with Taliban reps anywhere: Irfan Siddiqui

06 February, 2014

ISLAMABAD: The coordinator for the government's committee, Irfan Siddiqui has said the meeting with the committee nominated by the Taliban for talks is expected to take place on Thursday.

Irfan Siddiqui said: "we will listen to reservations of the Taliban's committee pertaining to our powers and will also redress them."

He added they would also apprise them of the reservations of the government's committee. Siddiqui said they were ready to meet Taliban's representatives wherever they wanted.

Moreover, the first session between government and Taliban committee will be held today (Thursday).

According to a private TV channel, the government peace committee will also meet DG ISI Lieutenant General Zaheerul Islam on Thursday. The meeting will discuss the progress in peace talks with Taliban.

The government committee will also meet Army Chief General Raheel Sharif after he returns from Saudi Arabia.

The talks with Taliban were scheduled to be kicked off from February 4. However, they were delayed after the government sought explanation over Taliban's committee.

Earlier, the government dialogue committee had conveyed to the team nominated by outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan that ambiguity about formation of their committee was removed.
