LAHORE: Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) former president Asma Jahangir said Raja Pervez Ashraf was not a good choice for prime minister of the country and his selection had revealed the feelings the Paksitan People's Party (PPP)-led government had for the people.

Talking to reporters at the Lahore High Court Bar Association premises, she said parliament had elected Raja, but he could not win the hearts of masses. She said Raja should not have been elected chief executive of the country as he was accused of financial corruption in rental power projects.

Asma said the Arsalan Iftikhar case was a conspiracy and the conspirators wanted to harass judges and wrap up democratic process in the country. In case one institution collapsed, the rest would automatically meet the same fate, she said.

The SCBA former president said she had always supported democracy regardless of who the prime minister was. She rejected the notion that political parties could introduce their agenda in the bar. Asma said the issues of US apology and Swiss letter had upset the whole country, adding that the Supreme Court should ask its registrar or the attorney general to write the letter to Swiss authorities.

End.
