ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Tuesday slated the Punjab government for "sabotaging" the PTI's intra-party polls in Rawalpindi, and alleged that terrorists were allowed to roam freely across Punjab, while the provincial police was being used to sabotage the PTI polls and the party's electoral offices were being sealed.

Addressing PTI workers at the party's central secretariat, Imran Khan urged them to remain calm and desist from resorting to violence. "Sharifs harmed the democratic system by indulging in corrupt practices, promoted 'lotacracy' and by supporting Zardari regime. Nawaz Sharif is hell-bent to reach the power corridors at all costs. He is ready to forge electoral alliances with banned outfits and even going with the 'Maulana diesel'," Imran Khan said, adding that now the Sharifs wanted to sabotage the intra-party polls of his party that are being held across Punjab.

"Sharifs are suffering from PTI phobia and they are crossing all limits of decency. They are afraid of the PTI, as this is the party which is working to introduce real democracy in Pakistan," he remarked, and claimed that the Sharif brothers had a history of using Punjab Police for their petty political gains and interests. However, Imran vowed that this practice would not be allowed to continue anymore.

The PTI chairman said the Punjab Police should not be blamed for "this ugly, irresponsible and immature move", as held the Punjab government responsible, saying it dictated the force to thwart the party's polls. He said that Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif had always used the Punjab Police to protect and safeguard their personal interests, whenever they came to power.

"It is the responsibility of the police to restore law and order and to ensure protection to life and property of the people in the country, but in total contradiction to it, the Punjab Police have resorted to sabotage the holding of the PTI polls without any reason," Imran added. He said that the PML-N wreaked havoc with the country by doing massive corruption during the past five years and now it was suffering from "tsunami-phobia" due to which it was doing everything to bar the PTI from holding intra-party polls.

"As the PTI is going to introduce a new culture in the country politics by holding intra-party elections, which turns to be a nightmare for leadership of other dynastic political parties that never hold the party polls, fearing that the workers of their respective parties may start pointing fingers at them for not holding party polls," Imran added.

Condemning in the alleged interference of Rawalpindi police and PML-N-led Punjab government in PTI's intra party election, Imran Khan said that stopping the party elections merely by an order issued last night at the Central Police Office, Rawalpindi, was surprising, as the police officer has no authority to do so.

"The dynastic leaders see the culture of intra-party polls a direct threat to their hold over the parties and thus they would use all means to stop the process," Imran said and warned the PML N not to sabotage the party polls. The PTI chief warned that the dynastic parties and their "aristocratic leadership" must bear in mind that the PTI would put an end to the culture of bringing their children in politics and ruling the country in turns. He said that the intra-party polls would be held on Thursday.

End.
