LAHORE: Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that the savages who molested a 5-year-old girl in Lahore had committed an unpardonable crime against the nation and humanity.
He said that early arrest of the culprits involved in this brutal act would be ensured to bring them to justice and prevent such tragic incidents in the future. He directed the Lahore police that the incident should be probed on scientific lines for apprehending the criminals.
He was presiding over a meeting on Sunday to review the progress in investigation of the case. Despite being ill, he convened the meeting of senior officers at his residence for a briefing.
Addressing the meeting, Shahbaz said the criminals involved in the inhuman act did not deserve to be called humans and would be apprehended as soon as possible to be awarded due punishment. He said police officers, if found guilty of dereliction of duty, would not be spared, adding that no innocent person should be unduly harassed while only the guilty should be arrested.
The CM said that the deplorable incident had tarnished the image of the country and was intolerable in any civilized society. He said that it was the responsibility of police to trace the criminals involved in the act for their early arrest. He said justice would be provided to the aggrieved family.
The chief minister was informed that investigation teams of police were trying to identify the culprits with the help of CCTV footage and some suspects had been arrested. The Lahore CCPO, DIG Investigation, DCO Lahore and officers concerned were present.
