Protest in Mian Channu over NAB officer's death

21 January, 2013

MIAN CHANNU: Residents, social and political workers, and business community of the city on Sunday held another protest rally and observed a shutter-down strike against the mysterious death of National Accountability Bureau's (NAB) investigation officer Kamran Faisal, who hailed from the city.

The rally passed through different areas of the city, including Circular Road, Main Bazaar, Talamba Road, Liaquat Road and Allama Iqbal Road, before turning into a huge procession on reaching in T Chowk. The demonstrators blocked the GT Road at T Chowk by burning tyres.

Addressing the protesters on the occasion, speakers of the rally said that the present government has ruined every institution of the country. They warned that the rulers would snatch every bit from the people if the voters elected them for another term.

They said that Kamran Faisal was investigating corruption of billions of rupees in the rental power plants case and had submitted his report in the Supreme Court against government officials on influential positions, therefore he was receiving life threats.

The protesters said that they would besiege parliament, and are ready for any sacrifice, if an FIR of the murder of Kamran Faisal was not registered. They appealed to Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry to take suo motu notice of the death and order registration of a case.

End.
