Probing BISP's corruption... By Asghar

20 January, 2014

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has been approached by the current management of Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) to probe corruption cases in the organisation.

BISP was conceived by the former PPP government to support the low income groups. The programme, however, was run like a 'private enterprise'. Certainly a probe into mismanagement and corruption in BISP is overdue and should be done. But would the bureaucrats who had served under the previous government and must have made hay while the sun was shining allow a non-partisan enquiry into the matter? Though NAB has the expertise, it has developed the tendency to support the powerful. Therefore for an impartial investigation all those who had been part of BISP, especially its Secretary, should be removed immediately.
