LAHORE: A sessions court on Tuesday ordered the anti-corruption officials to probe into the matter of fake degrees' issuance to former MNAs Sumaira Malik and Abdul Qadir Gillani.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Tariq Mehmood Zargham passed the orders while disposing of an application filed by Prof Dr Zaid Mehmood, who heads the Chemistry Department of the Punjab University (PU).
He sought directions from the court for the registration of a case against PU Vice Chancellor Dr Mujahid Kamran, PU Controller Examination Dr Liaqat and others for issuing fake degrees to the former lawmakers.
Earlier, the petitioner's counsel Aftab Ahmad Bajwa, in his arguments said that the apex court had disqualified Sumaira Malik after the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) reported that her degrees and that of Abdul Qadir Gillani were fake. He said the apex court also ordered the FIA to take action against them but the agency referred the matter to the Anti-Corruption Establishment.
He alleged that degrees were issued in connivance with the PU VC, controller and others.
