Presidential elections to take place between Sept 15 and Oct 15 : Musharraf

KARACHI: President General Pervez Musharraf has said Presidential Elections will be held between September, 15 and October 15 adding all the arrangements will be made in this regard in commensurate with law and constitution.
He said this while talking to MQM delegation, which called on him here in governor house Sunday. Besides governor Sindh Dr Ishrat ul Ibad Khan, MQM parliamentary leader Dr Farooq Sattar, Nazim Karachi, Syed Mustafa Kamal, minister for communication Shamim Siddiqui, Minister for Ports and Shipping Babar Ghauri, Haider Abbas and others also attended the meeting.
Matters related to next general elections, political situation in the country, power crisis in Karachi, performance of KESC and development projects were discussed in the meeting.
President reiterated country was facing menaces of terrorism and extremism. Civil society can play vital role to combat these scourges.
Those who think that national politics can flourish without MQM lack perception, president declared.
Giving details about president meeting with MQM delegation minister for communication Shamim Siddiqui told president had confirmed his meeting with Benazir Bhutto at Abu Dhabi. President told that they could not proceed further on the matter during the meeting.
Shamim Siddiqui told the matter of re-election of president in uniform did not come under discussion during the meeting. However MQM assured its full support to President for continuity of democratic process. The future strategy and certain important issues were discussed with the president .
To a question he said MQM coordination committee would take decision about MQM support to president on uniform issue.
President arrived chief minister house Karachi after his meeting with MQM delegation and met with Pir of Pagara and members of national and provincial assemblies of allied parties.
