President over demise of Dr. Hamed

KABUL: President Hamid Karzai on Monday expressed deep grief and shock over the demise of veteran scholar and politician, Dr. Abdul Samad Hamed. "I was shocked to hear that veteran scholar and politician, Dr. Abdul Samad Hamed breathed his last," a statement issued by Presidential Palace quoted the Afghan president as saying. The president termed the demise of Dr. Hamed as a big loss for the country and its people. Dr. Hamed died in Germany on Dec. 30 at the age of 83. Born in Khugyani district of eastern Ningarhar province, Dr. Hamed served as teacher and head of Kabul University, planning minister and vice prime minister during the rule of president Musa Shafeed. He said also briefly detained after the Sour Revolution in 1978 but later left the country and started efforts against the USSR aggression.
