President Zardari visits Data Darbar, prays for peace

LAHORE: President Asif Ali Zardari on Saturday visited the shrine of Syed Ali bin Usman Ali al Hajweri, Data Ganj Bakhsh, to pay homage to the great saint.

The president was accompanied by PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs Mian Manzoor Ahmad Wattoo.

Punjab Governor Makhdoom Ahmed Mehmood, Federal Information Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira and other dignitaries were also present on the occasion.

The president offered fateha and laid a floral wreath at the shrine.

He prayed for peace, progress and prosperity of the country and well-being of the people.

Earlier, Manzoor Ahmad Wattoo had called on President Zardari at Bilawal House and apprised the president of the observance of Kashmir Solidarity Day on February 5 as well as the overall situation, including development projects, in AJK and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Senator Farhatullah Babar, giving details of the meeting, said that the president inquired about the progress of various development projects in the region, including the gradating of Raikot-Khunjrab section of the Karakoram Highway, realignment of the highway at Attabad Lake, rehabilitation of people affected by the increase in the water level of Mangla Dam and Attabad Lake as well as construction of Bhasha Dam.

The president said that the projects were important for the development of the area and the creation of job opportunities for the people of the area.

He said that progress on the projects should be monitored regularly and their timely completion should be ensured.
