ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari has summoned the first session of the newly elected National Assembly to meet in Islamabad on Saturday (June 1).

Presidential spokesperson Senator Farhatullah Babar said the President signed the summary sent to him in this regard by the caretaker Prime Minister.

The newly elected members of the House will be administered oath in the first session of the newly elected National Assembly.

In the first session‚ outgoing speaker Dr. Fahmida Mirza will administer the oath to the newly elected members. Later on‚ members will sign register of the Assembly.

The Speaker will announce schedule for the election of new Speaker and Deputy Speaker which will be held on Monday.

PML-N which is the single largest party in the House has not yet finalized the names of the candidates for Speaker and Deputy Speaker.

However‚ Tehrik-e-Insaf has nominated Shehryar Afridi for the Speaker while Ms Munazza Hassan for Deputy Speaker. The newly elected House is expected to elect its new leader on 5th of next month and it is almost final that PML-N chief Muhammad Nawaz Sharif will be elected new Prime Minister which will be his third term in the office.
