Praise where it is due... By Shahid

It is unfortunate to note that every year thousands of people are affected by road accidents in Pakistan due to lack of public awareness about the importance of traffic discipline and road safety regulations. Much of this distress can be prevented by exercising a little care and vigilance. Exercising caution while driving can save many precious lives every day. I find it heartening to note that the Islamabad traffic police and Mobilink Foundation have launched a comprehensive programme to create traffic discipline amongst the masses. I am glad that the organisers have involved the youth of the country to spread the message of road safety, as they are the custodians of our future. This annual road safety painting competition in Islamabad seemed to be well received by students who used the medium of art to express their observations and creative ideas for enhancing public safety on the roads. We should appreciate that this unique event also saw enthusiastic participation from disabled children who came to share their innovative perspectives on safety measures, specifically designed for those with special needs.
