Policemen kill two colleagues

KALAT/JALALABAD: Five policemen allegedly shot dead their two colleagues in southern province of Zabul yesterday, an official said Thursday. The incident took place near the Atghar district headquarters yesterday, the Zabul governor’s spokesman Muhammad Sharif Nasiri told AIP. The accused policemen fled from the scene along with their weapons, he said, adding the cause of the incident could not be ascertained immediately. Meanwhile, the Taliban claimed responsibility for the incident and their spokesman Qari Muhammad Yousaf Ahmadi told the AIP their fighters conducted the attack with the help of two policemen. He claimed three cops were killed and three more captured alive in the attack. The captured policemen had been transferred to safer area, he added. The Taliban captured the police checkpoint and seized 10 weapons and three wireless communication devices. The Taliban fighters did not suffer casualties in the incident, he maintained. In a separate incident, five police personnel were injured when their vehicle struck an improvised explosive device blast in Khairabad area of Sarah Rod district today, the Nangarhar police spokesman Hazrat Hussain Mashriqiwal told reporters. The injured were taken to the hospital where two of them were stated to be in critical condition, he added. The Taliban have not said anything in this regard till filling of this report. End.
