Policeman, political leader among five killed in Karachi

KARACHI: A policeman and a local leader of Awami National Party (ANP) among five people were killed in separate acts of violence here on Tuesday.

A bullet-riddled body of a policeman was found near the Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) within the precincts of Eidgah police station.

Police shifted it to CHK for medico-legal formalities. A police official told our sources that the deceased was identified as Shuja Hussain Shah, son of Ameer Hussain Shah. He said that unidentified culprits on Monday night kidnapped Shah and later penetrated bullets in his body, before throwing it from a running vehicle.

He said that the deceased was posted at the police complaint centre at the Central Police Office (CPO) and lived at Kalakot police lane. He said that the deceased had also been posted at various police stations in Lyari. He said that it was viewed that involvement of Lyari gangsters might be behind the incident. Police have registered a case and initiated the probe.

Separately, a local leader of ANP was gunned down in Frontier colony, Orangi Town within the limits of Pirabad police station. An official said that 62-year-old Mian Jan, son of Gul Mian, was on his way to home after offering Fajr prayer in Masjid-e-Aqsa when two pillion riders shot him dead and ran away. His body was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for an autopsy. He said that the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) men had threatened him to quit ANP. The deceased used to live in the same area and hailed fom Swat. Police suspected that the TTP men were involved in the killing.

Another man was killed during crossfire between two groups in Mujahid colony within the jurisdiction of Nazimabad police station. Police said that over a pity issue, two groups of Bengali community opened fire on each other, resultantly, a man, later identified as Saleemullah, son of Hydayatullah, resident of the same area, received a bullet in his head and died on the spot. His body was brought to ASH for a postmortem.

The body of a man packed in a gunny bag was found near Crown Cinema within the limits of Kalri police station. Police said that local residents pointed out the body, which was later shifted to CHK for an autopsy, where the deceased was identified as 35-year-old Rizwan, son of Akhtar. They said that deceased lived in Agra Taj colony, Lyari and was kidnapped on Monday night, when he was on his way to home after visiting his parents in Baldia Town. Motive behind the murder was yet to be ascertained.

An unidentified young man was found dead in sector 7-A within the limits of Orangi Town police station. Police officials said that unidentified culprits after kidnapping the victim, shot him dead and dumped his body at an abandoned place. His body was shifted to ASH for medico-legal formalities and later moved to a morgue for identification.
