Policeman among five shot dead in Karachi

KARACHI: Five people including a policeman were killed in different firing incidents in the city on Monday, police said. A policeman was killed inside his house situated in Jamali Goth of Sohrab Goth area with in the precincts of Sohrab Goth police station. Police official said on the wee hours of Monday unidentified armed culprits barged into the house of 52-year-old Ghulam Shabbir, son of Haji Nawaz and opened fire at him when he was sleeping. He died on the spot due to serious bullet injuries. The culprits fled the scene after the incident. The body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for medico legal formalities. The officer told the victim was deployed in Sohrab Goth industrial area police check post. He further said that the victim was a father of three children and hailed from khanewal, Punjab. In other incident, a man was stabbed to death at Nursery Bus stop, Sharah-e-Faisal within the limits of Tipu Sultan Police station. According to police, the victim, Muhammad Irshad, 43, son of Ghulam Haider was stabbed by unidentified culprits as a result he suffered critical wounds and was rushed to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for treatment but succumbed to his injuries on the way. The victim was the resident of Block-5, PECHS. Police said the personal enmity was the reason behind killing. In yet another incident, a man was shot dead in Orangi Town within the limits of Iqbal Maket police station According to police, the victim, Zahid, 29, son of Akhtar was sitting outside his house when two armed riders came, opened fire on him and escaped. The body was shifted to the ASH for autopsy. A man was shot dead in Bilal Colony within the limits of Korangi Industrial Area police station. Police said the victim, Asif, 32, son of Sadaqat came to the area to meet somebody where two armed pillion riders open fire at him, and resultantly he died. The body was shifted to JPMC. Mishap: A newspaper hawker was hit to death by a speeding vehicle near Sohrab Goth bridge within the limits of Samanabad police station. Police said Shahid Ali, son of Zahid Ali was going somewhere on his motorbike, when he reached near the bridge unidentified speeding vehicle hit him form the back, killing him on the spot. The body was taken to ASH for autopsy. End.
