Policeman among 15 killed in Karachi

KARACHI: At least fifteen people, including a policeman and a medical superintendent of the Sindh Government Hospital were killed in separate incidents of violence in the city on Tuesday, police said.

A man was killed over personal enmity in Golimar area within the limits of Rizvia Police Station. SHO Rashid Haider said that the victim, Shahzed, 34, had a quarrel with his cousin Ali Asghar, during which the latter shot at him multiple times and escaped. The injuries proved fatal and Shahzad died soon after the shooting. The body was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for an autopsy.

A medical superintendent of the Sindh Government Hospital, New Karachi, was killed at UP Morr. Police official said that the victim, Dr Hassan Alam, was heading towards his house in his car when two armed men intercepted his vehicle and shot at him, killing him on the spot. The body was shifted to the ASH for medico-legal formalities. In another incident, a man was killed in Malir. According to police, the 23-year-old victim was shot dead while on his bike. The body was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC).

Separately, an aged man was killed near the Northern Bypass in Khairabad. Police said that the victim, Muhammad Jameel, 53, was returning home after his shift in a factory situated in Manghopir area when armed riders shot him dead and escaped. Meanwhile, a man was killed in Orangi town. According to police, the identity of the victim could not be ascertained. The body was shifted to the ASH for an autopsy.

Another man was killed near his house in Ibrahim Goth. An official said that the victim, Javaid, 22, was shot and killed outside his house. The body was moved to CHK for an autopsy. Police said the motive behind the killing was personal enmity. Meanwhile, a woman's strangulated body was found from inside her house in Mubarak Village. According to police, the 25-year-old victim Ms Latifa, wife of Bilal was found dead inside her house.

A tortured bullet-riddled body of a man was found from Old Haji Camp area. Police said that unidentified men abducted the victim, severely tortured him and then shot him dead. They later threw the body at an abandoned place. They said that the identity of the victim could not be ascertained, while he appears to be 27 years old. A 40-year-old policeman was shot dead near Siddique-e-Akbar Mosque in Nagan Chowrangi, whereas a man was killed in Gulshan-e-Iqbal. The victim was shot at by two armed pillion riders while he was in his car. In the other incident, a man was killed near his shop situated along police training centre Saeedabad within the jurisdiction of Saeedabad police station. According to police, the victim, Ghulam Asghar was shot outside his shop.

Separately, a man was killed and five others were injured in a clash between two groups in Manzoor Colony within the limits of Mehmoodabad police station.

According to police, Romail, 33, Salositar, 24, Qamar, 29, Mazhar, 35, Zar Badshah, 30, received injuries during a clash between two groups and were rushed to the JPMC for treatment where during treatment Romail succumbed to his injuries. Bodies of two men were found from Dalda Mor, Baldia Town within the limits of SITE-B Police station. SHO Moid said that the identity of the victims was yet to be ascertained.

Police said that the bodies were trussed up and bore torture marks. He said that one of the man was beheaded and the head was found from Shershah area. Another dead body of a man was found form Memon Goth.
