Police safely recover two abducted persons from G12

16 January, 2014

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad police have arrested six kidnappers and safely recovered two abducted persons from a house in Sector G12 during a search operation.

The kidnappers had demanded more than Rs 10 million for the release of the abducted persons.

Addressing a press conference, Inspector General of Police Sikandar Hayat said that Syed Rehman Ali was kidnapped last month by some unidentified persons and a case regarding his kidnapping was registered in Ramana Police Station on December 29 under Section 365-A of the PPC.

He said a special police team was working on this case when Syed Imran, a relative of the kidnapped person, informed the police about receiving a phone call from the kidnappers, threatening to kill Syed Rehman in case Rs 10 million were not paid to them within 24 hours.

Following this threatening message, the IGP said various police teams including those of technical experts had been constituted, which tried to trace the location of the caller. The call was made from a slum in Mirabadia, Sector G12.

He said that other mobile numbers that were used to make calls to the relatives of the kidnapers were also under observations, and that most of the locations were in Mardan and other areas. He said search teams were immediately sent to the area (G12), and the informer pointed out a house in `Itefaq Town` near Al-Tahir Foundation School, where movement of the suspects and vehicles with tinted glasses were observed.

"This house was raided and those inside started firing at the policemen, but the police teams entered the house and overpowered the six kidnappers. The arrested men and a woman told the police about the presence of the kidnapped persons in an adjacent room," the IGP said.

He said that the police team safely recovered abducted Syed Rehman Ali and Syed Ehsan Abbass, a resident of G13/3, as a case about his kidnapping was also registered at the Golra Police Station on December 11.

The nabbed persons have been identified as Khan Sharif and Gul Zareef, residents of Dir; Qamarullah, a resident of Teemar Garah; and Pervez Khan and Lela Gul, residents of Mardan.

During preliminary investigation, the kidnappers told the police about two of their accomplices who left the house just before the raid, and three others who managed to escape during firing on the police. They were Imran Yunus, resident of Peshawar; Sherzada Khan, a resident of Mardan; Shah Jahan, a resident of Bajaur Agency; Akram Syed, a resident of Malakand Agency; and Imran Khan, a resident of Mardan.

The IGP said that special police teams had been constituted for the arrest of the absconding criminals.

To a question, he said that the Islamabad police had finalised worked on all the terrorism cases from 2008 to 2013. He said that high-profile criminals and other targeted offenders had been arrested.

To another question, he said that the Islamabad police had solved all kidnapping cases during the last year. The IGP said that steps were underway to control car theft in the capital, and that significant success had been make in this regard too.
