LAHORE: Police arrested two alleged members of a banned outfit who were attempting to enter the city with a large quantity of arms and ammunition.

During a routine security check, Sherakot police stopped a car on suspicion but its occupants opened fire and tried to escape while leaving their vehicle behind.

Police chased the suspects and arrested them. They were identified as Asad and Mutahir of a tribal agency and allegedly belonged to Al-Qaeda. Police shifted them to an undisclosed location for interrogation.

Crimes Investigation Agency Superintendent of Police Umar Virk said initial investigation revealed the suspects were planning to attack seven locations in Lahore and were also involved in smuggling arms and ammunition across the country.
