Police arrest man threatening to commit suicide

18 January, 2014

LAHORE: Police has successfully apprehended a gun wielding young man who created chaos at a private airlines office by threatening to commit suicide if he was not allowed to meet a young woman he claimed to be romantically involved with.

According to media reports, the gunman identified as Kamran entered the office of a private airline located in Civil Line area near Shimla Pahari around 5:00 and tried to talk to the girl who refused to meet him and hide in a washroom.

The man had a rather unusual demand that is to marry a woman who as he claims works ere and had broken up with him after dating for 2 years.

During apprehension, the gun went off accidently which could have proven deadly but no one was harmed. Earlier, the man had also fired in the air a number of times. Kamran took the staff hostage and demanded he be allowed to meet the girl or else he would commit suicide.

He claimed that the girl used to love him before she declared him to be a brother after a three-year affair.

When grabbed by the police, Kamran fired a shot into the air and fortunately no one was hurt. He has been taken into police custody. Kamran claims to be a textile worker who had a broken heart after the woman he claims to be dating for 2 years broke up with him.

"I am a textile engineer and this woman is the love of my love but his father doesn't want us to marry" he said while talking to media.

"They have relocated and the woman won't return any of my calls that is why I have resorted to this attempt," he added.

The man went on to target the character of the woman saying she was probably with him in anticipation of 'unlawful' relation but he wanted to proceed after 'properly marrying her'.

The incident is being compared to the one in Islamabad last year where a man named Sikandar held Jinnah Avenue hostage for at least 5 hours demanding the "Sharia" to be implemented.

Unlike that, Kamran's scene lasted only a few minutes after which he was apprehended by the police in the drop scene.
