Pir Pagara funeral prayers offered, laid to rest

PIR JO GOTH: The funeral prayers of Pir Pagara Syed Mardan Shah was offered on Thursday amidst thousands of mourning people including mureed and devotees in Pir Jo Goth.

Pir Pagara's murshid Pir of Jhang Syed Siraj Ahmed Gilani led the funeral prayers. Later on, he was laid to rest in his native cemetery.

Several politicians who attended the funeral include Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, former Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi, former Sindh Assembly Speaker Syed Muzaffar Hussain Shah, Prime Minister's son Abdul Qadir Gilani, Federal Minister Khuda Bux Rajar and MPAs including Imtiaz Sheikh, Jam Madad Ali and Khan Muhammed Mehr.

A delegation of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) led by Dr. Sagheer Ahmed attended the last religious rituals of Pir Pagara.

Pir Pagara was being treated since November 24 in Karachi and was shifted to a London hospital a week ago for further medical care.

Mardan Shah, Pir Pagara, who was the chief of Pakistan Muslim League – Functional (PML-F) passed away on Tuesday in London due to a cardiac arrest.

Earlier before the funeral, the eldest son of Shah Mardan Shah, Pir Sibghatullah Shah Rashdi was chosed by 16 caliphs of Hurs as the new Pir Pagara. The eighth Pir Pagara is usually known as Raja Sain.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani alongwith his son Syed Abdul Qadir Gillani also participated in the funeral of the spiritual leader of Hur Movement , Pir Syed Mardan Ali Shah alias Pir Pagara.

On the occasion, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah , Vice Chairman of Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Provincial Minister Manzoor Wasan, former Prime Minister Mir Zafar Ullah Khan Jamali, Naib Ameer Jammat-e-Islami Sidh Mumtaz Hussain , leader of MQM Dr Saghir Ahmed, President PML(N) Sindh Syed Ghous Ali Shah, federal and provincial ministers, members of parliament, political leaders and of devotees in large number were also present during the funeral of Pir Pagara.

Before the burial, Pir Pagara, his eldest son Pir Sibghat Ullah Shah Rashdi alias Raja Sain, was appointed his successor as he was crowned with the traditional turban as seventh Pir Pagara in presence of thousand devotees. For the selection of new Pir Pagara the meeting of 16 Hur Khailfas including Chief Khalifa Faqeer Qadir Buksh Mangrio, Faqeer Ahmed Salah Mehar, Faqeer Abdul Basit Hangoro, Waryam Faqeer Khaskhaili, FaqeerAli Ghulam Nizamani, Faqeer Abdul Salam Dahari and Hur Khalifa came from India Ghazi Faqeer Kalar was held in the shrine, which continued for the whole night, which selected Pir Sibghat Ullah Shah Rashdi as their new spiritual head.

The dead body of PML (Functional)'s Chief Pir Pagara Mardan Shah was brought to his home town Pir Jogat from Sukkur by helicopter at 11'O clock in the morning amid of strict security measures .Heavy contingents of police were deployed on the occasion.

Pir of Jhang Syed Siraj-ul-Haq Gillani led the funeral prayer of Pir Pagara. All the shops remained close throughout district Khairpur.

It is pertinent to mention here that Pir Pagara Shah Mardan Shah was the uncle of Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani and new Pir Pagara Sibghat Ullah Shah Rashdi is the father-in-law of Syed Abdul Qadir Gillani, the son of the premier.

Pir Sibghatullah Rashidi selected as new Pir Pagara

Pir Sibghatullah Rashidi on Thursday has been elected new Pir Pagara after Pir Shah Mardan known as Pir Paga, chief of PML-F and spiritual leader of Hur Jamat died at the age of 82 in London on Tuesday.

Pir Sibghatullah Rashidi is the eight Pir Pagara of Hur Jamat. He took the charge in the presence of thousands of followers waiting for burial of their late Pir Pagara in his home town of Pirjo Goath near Khairpur district. He is the elder son of late Pir Pagara.
