RAWALPINDI: The Anti-Terrorism Court has acquitted Rana Faqir Hussain, accused in Pervez Musharraf attack case, for lack of sufficient evidence against him.
Hussain was arrested on December 8, 2005. He was taken into custody along with his 13 family members.
He was accused of being part of a suicide attack on December 25, 2003 aimed at former president Musharraf at Jhanda Chichi. Twenty two people, including four policemen, were killed in the attack. He was also accused of parking his explosive-laden vehicle at a petrol pump in front of Civil Line Police Station.
The counsel for Hussain, Col (r) Inamul Rahim, had prayed before the court that his client be acquitted as despite passage of seven years the prosecution has failed to present any evidence against his client and also no charges have been proven in the court. ATC Judge Chaudhry Habibur Rehman acquitted Hussain of all charges and ordered his immediate release.
