Paying what is due... By Zulfiqar

18 February, 2013

There are 732 deserving employees of the ministry of national food security and research regularised on the basis of the prime minister's approved policy of June 30, 2011, on the basis of the Islamabad High Court's favourable decision.

However, ministry authorities said that they had demanded a Rs 60 million per annum budget for payment and other expenditures from the finance division but the finance division did not respond. There have been complaints that the finance division has been ignoring this issue due to its 'insufficient' budget. This is really not a huge amount, one that has been demanded for 732 deserving employees and their families for their survival.

The government has been providing billions per month in its budget and funds to ministers, MNAs, senators, MPAs and their official staff for their district development programmes, personal expenses, travel allowances, tours, visits, security protection, etc, but the government does not have Rs 60 million for the needy employees of the ministry of national food security and research? I find that very hard to believe. All these deserving employees are young, master's degree holders, and have technical experience in their respective fields. It is these people who will be the future of this country.
