ISLAMABAD: The nation will observe its 64th Independence Day today (Sunday) with great fervour and simplicity. The day will begin with special prayers in mosques for unity, solidarity and prosperity of the country.

The celebrations would begin with a 31-gun salute in the federal capital and a 21-gun salute at all the provincial headquarters. National flags will be hoisted on all government and private buildings and Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani will hoist the national flag in a ceremony at 9.00am at the Jinnah Convention Centre as well.

Flag hoisting ceremonies will also be held in all provincial capitals where the national flag will be hoisted on all important public and private buildings.

Special prayers will be offered for peace, solidarity and prosperity of the country and for success of the long drawn struggle of the Kashmiris in all mosques today.

Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has assured that America is committed to working with the people of Pakistan to promote greater peace and prosperity for both the nations.

In her message on the Independence Day, she said, “On behalf of President Obama and the people of the United States, I am delighted to send best wishes to the people of Pakistan.”

The US ambassador to Pakistan Cameron Munter has also sent best wishes on the Pakistan’s Independence Day.

In his statement, the US ambassador said, “On behalf of President Obama, I send best wishes on the joyous anniversary of Pakistan’s Independence Day. May you continue to build on the great legacy of your founder Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and realise his vision for a strong, stable, and secure country.”
