Pakistan and Russia... By Saleha

It is very reassuring to see that Pakistan is finally seeking influential friends in other places instead of always relying on the US to come to its rescue. With the recent meeting of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov with our Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar and promises of entering a new phase of relations and cooperation between the two countries, it seems that a new era is in the making where Pakistan can look towards other countries in the region to help shape a new geo-political structure. We have been depending on US doleouts for a very long time and many of our experiences with the superpower have left us high and dry, justifying to our own people why we are at the bottom of the food chain where the US is concerned. I truly hope Pakistan and Russia can deliver on their promises of regional cooperation so that our future generations may know what it is like to have friends who are not of only the fair-weather variety.
