05 October, 2012

At the time when Pakistan's relations with US have seen several ups and downs in last 10 years and US is always pressuring Pakistan for do more Pakistan is trying hard to strengthen its ties with China and Russia to less its reliability on United States. At the time when Afghan war is affecting whole region recent visit of Chief of the Army Staff General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani to Russian is important for both countries. Russian Foreign Minister has recently visited Islamabad and met key government personalities. Pakistan is also seeking Russian cooperation in its worse hit energy and power sector.

According to media news Kayani is the first ever Pakistan army chief to visit Russia he would meet several key Russian civil and military leadership and would discuss how to set relations between both the countries. Pakistani army chief would also visit sensitive Russian military installations to increase defense cooperation between two countries. Pakistan close ally of US, played a major role in Soviet defeat in Afghanistan. Political experts believe that recent visit of Pakistan army chief is a breakthrough in cooperation between both countries and it could become beginning of a new era of Pak-Russian relations.
