PTI vows to raise voice against drone attacks in Tribal Areas

12 October, 2012

LAHORE: Reacting strongly against the continuation of US drone attacks in the Tribal Areas, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Thursday said that the drone strikes are not acceptable and they would raise voice against this violation of international law at international forums.

PTI Central Information Secretary Shafqat Mahmood strongly condemned the recent strikes in North Waziristan and held that the attacks were unacceptable as they cause tremendous collateral damage and are in strict violation of human rights. The first drone strike after PTI's march against the CIA programme killed at least five people in North Waziristan Agency and today's strike killed six people and injured four children.

It was not immediately ascertained whether any key militants were among the killed. The drone attacks have become a grave threat and a serious challenge to the existence and survival of Pakistan. The US authorities say that the drone attacks are a part of the global war on terror but in fact the drones are increasing terrorism instead of curbing it.

The government continuously claims that the drone strikes violate its sovereignty and are counterproductive but the fact of the matter is that they have not been able to take any substantial steps to put an end to this injustice. The PTI has managed to bring together people of FATA and the common people of Pakistan and has managed to highlight the menace of drones that have killed innocent people, maimed thousands and displaced hundreds of thousands.

End.
