ISLAMABAD: Former prime minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif Tuesday said that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) was made for the people like Aamir Liaquat.

“Amir Liaquat had previously wanted to join the PML-N … but we are thankful that he did not join,” Nawaz told media outside the accountability court. “PTI has been formed for people like Aamir Liaquat. PTI deserves people like Aamir Liaquat,” he added.

Nawaz, however, chose to remain silent on a question about PML-N leader Chaudhary Nisar. He said he doesn’t expect anything from anyone. “What complain can one make when he does not expect. It has been a common practice in Pakistan.”

Commenting on the graft cases, the PML-N leader asked why the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) filed supplementary references when it couldn’t find anything incriminating enough to prove him guilty in the previous references. “The past reference has been covered in the new reference. What was the need of registering a new reference when nothing could be found out from the first reference? When nothing could be found in the whole last year, so how would anything surface in these one and a half months?” he commented on a question about extending the case deadline.

Nawaz said efforts were being made to find something to incriminate him and members of his family, adding that the cases which brought loss to the national exchequer were not being heard.

Without naming anyone, Nawaz said they were after his father’s business. “If the ruling family was to hold to account at any cost, then it should have begun from 1937 when Almighty Allah started blessing us,” he said. Drawing comparison with a Bollywood movie, Nawaz said he was being meted out the treatment similar to that of Indian film actor Dileep Kumar in a movie in which his wife sets his bedroom on fire when she couldn’t win her husband’s affections.
