Former prime minister and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) senior leader Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani on Sunday said that his party unconditionally supports Prime Minister Imran Khan on the issue of Kashmir.
“Keeping aside all their political differences, opposition parties and the whole nation is united and supports the vision of Imran Khan,” Gilani said while talking to journalists.
He said that the PPP fully supported the vision of Imran Khan and his decision of raising the voice for Kashmiri people at the United Nations.
When asked about the tense relations between Pakistan and India after the Mumbai attacks during his tenure, he said that relations between India and Pakistan were cordial during his tenure. “I met with senior leadership and the then PM of India and we discussed all the outstanding issues, including Kashmir, Sir Creek and Siachen on all international forums, including the SAARC.” He said that there was no difference of opinion between him and then Indian prime minister Manmohan Singh. “We agreed to resume talks because more than a billion people could not be made hostage. Manmohan Singh, after coming to know about my sentiments, said that Gilani is a man of peace,” he added.
He said that the policy of the PPP on the issue of Kashmir was clear and known to everyone, and added that PPP founder late Zulfikar Ali Bhutto had voiced his concerns regarding Kashmir in Tashkent while he was a foreign minister. He said that Zulfikar Ali Bhutto laid the foundation of the PPP on the issue of Kashmir, and the PPP was sticking to its roots till today. “The PPP is committed to its foundations,” he said, adding that Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was the greatest ambassador after Quaid-i- Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah. Gilani said that the PPP offers all political, moral and diplomatic support to the Kashmiri brothers, sisters and children.
