ISLAMABAD: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said on Thursday that the PPP had always worked for strengthening the federation and to uplift living standard of common man.

He expressed these view while addressing PPP Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) office bearers at Zardari House Islamabad on Thursday. PPP Secretary General Syed Nayyar Hussain Bukhari and GB PPP President Amjad Hussain were also present on the occasion.

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that PPP President Asif Ali Zardari had fulfilled the promise made by Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto by giving Gilgit-Baltistan the status of a province and now GB had its own governor, chief minister and the cabinet.

“It is necessary to hold elections in GB with the rest of the country and this measure will strengthen the federation,” he said.

“GB has elected a PPP candidate in by-elections, which shows that the people will elect PPP candidates whenever elections are free, fair and transparent,” he said.

Senior leaders of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) called on party chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari at Zardari House here on Thursday and discussed with him the prevailing political situation of the country.

Those who attended the meeting included Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah, Opposition Leader in the Senate Ch Aitzaz Ahsan, Senators Sherry Rehman, Farhatullah Babar, Salim Mandviwala, Secretary General PPP Syed Nayyar Hussain Bukhari, Senator Sabir Baloch and Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar.
