PM's disqualification: LHC CJ requested to form larger bench
18 May, 2012
LAHORE: Justice Umar Ata Bandial of the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday referred to the chief justice for the constitution of a larger bench to hear two petitions requesting to restrain Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani from holding his office.
The petitions also requested the court to seek an explanation from the PM that under which law he was claiming to be the country's chief executive after being convicted of contempt by the Supreme Court (SC).
On Wednesday, LHC Chief Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed had declined to take up the petitions for personal reasons and referred them to Justice Bandial. Advocate Shahid Naseem Gondal and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Inqilab Chairman Rana Ilamuddin Ghazi had moved the petitions.
