PML-Q made its utmost to stop Lal Mosque operation: Shujaat

ISLAMABAD: PML-Q president Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain has said that the issue of Lal Mosque was issue of administrative nature and PML-Q made its utmost efforts to stop it.
In a statement, Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain said that he had played his best role to resolve the Lal Mosque standoff, which he would rather not want to repeat again; but former President Gen (r) Pervez Musharraf and Shaukat Aziz finally decided for operation.
He said that he had suggested the option of “Safe Passage” to then government for late Maulana Abdul Rashid Ghazi and other persons especially women and children while government was insisting on seeking surrender from all the persons present inside the mosque.
Shujaat said that this very point had created row between PML-Q and Musharraf. He said that former President Pervez Musharraf had accused me for causing delay in Lal Mosque operation, claiming that, he (Shujaat) being a party president had failed to stop Lal Mosque operation, which was witnessed on TV by entire nation.
He further said that he along with General Secretary Wafaq ul Madaris, Maulana Hanif Jalandari and other Ulema held dialogues with Lal Mosque administration. “Ministry of Interior of than government prepared nine points out of which eight were finalized. I had continued to shuttle between Musharraf and Shaukat Aziz, “ he added.
Similarly, he disclosed that he had tried his utmost to solve Lal Mosque standoff amicably but ” I was asked that I am causing inordinate delay in operation. I told Musharraf that Lal Mosque administration is ready to accept government demands than it was asked that orders have been issued for Lal Mosque operation. “
