PML-Q MPA disqualified over fake degree
09 August, 2012
LAHORE: Justice Nasir Saeed Sheikh of the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday declared Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid's (PML-Q) Punjab Assembly member Malik Iqbal Langrial disqualified after his educational certificates were proved fake. The judge, declaring the Punjab Assembly seat PPP 126 in Sahiwal vacant, ordered re-election. He declared Langrial disqualified as he had participated in the general election on a degree issued by a seminary which was not recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC). The judge issued the disqualification order while accepting two identical petitions moved by Langrial's rival candidates, Saifur Rehman of the PML-N and Jamshed Alam. The petitioners had filed the petitions in 2008, submitting that Langrial had a degree from the Madrassa Al Quranul Arabia Baharul Uloom, Shikarpur, Sindh, and a Shahadatul Alamia degree from the Jamia Talimatul Islamia, Rawalpindi. The petitioners's counsel had said that these seminaries were not affiliated with Wafaqul Madaris and not recognised by the UGC. End.
