PML-N will win polls with two-thirds majority: Nawaz

10 December, 2012

LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz President Nawaz Sharif has expressed confidence that his party would bag two-thirds majority in the coming elections and asked the workers to start preparations for elections without wasting any time.

Speaking at a reception hosted by him for the victorious candidates in the recently held by-elections, Nawaz Sharif said victory of PML-N candidates was a proof of confidence of the people in the party. He said the by-elections were a referendum of the success of PML-N government in Punjab and failure of the rulers at the Centre. He hoped that the party would clean sweep the general elections.

Nawaz said that they will have to make a new Pakistan by working day and night, as the country is in the grip of grave crises. He pointed out that the PPP and its allies have given nothing to the country but crises, and they must prepare themselves to return the looted money instead of dreaming of another tenure after the elections.

The PML-N president said if voted to power, his party would protect the interests of the country and work for raising the living standard of the people. He said the party manifesto was in the last phase of completion and would be made public on the founding day of the party on December 30.

The PML-N chief said had the democratic setup not been toppled on October 12, 1999, Pakistan would have joined the ranks of developed countries. He said that though the rulers have obtained loans of billions of dollars but the national institutions are still in a state of ruin because the rulers have neither the policies nor the wisdom to steer the country out of darkness. He said that Pakistan is facing serious challenges such as energy crisis, terrorism and extremism and there is a need for strenuous efforts for overcoming problems.

Speaking on the occasion, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said the victory in the by-polls had demonstrated the masses' confidence in the policy of merit. He said that according to the report of an international institution, corruption of seven billion rupees is being committed every day in the country and the loot and plunder of resources has pushed the country to the brink of disaster.

The CM said that there is a need to change the existing corrupt system and rid the country of corrupt rulers. He said that the political opponents of the PML-N are in a state of shock over its thumping success in bye-elections. He said that Nawaz Sharif is a ray of hope for the people of Pakistan and under his leadership all problems being faced by the country will be overcome. Shahbaz stressed upon the victorious candidates to utilise all their energies for the solution of people's problems and serve the masses with dedication.

He said that the success of PML-N is a result of public service, party policies and the merit policy of the Punjab government. He expressed the hope that PML-N will also win the forthcoming general election.

End.
