PML-N to file petition against speaker's ruling on Gilani

28 May, 2012

LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Khawaja Muhammad Asif will file a petition in the Supreme Court today (Monday) against the decision of the National Assembly speaker regarding conviction of Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani.

According to a PML-N press release, the petition states that the May 24 ruling of the National Assembly speaker in the matter of Yousaf Raza Gilani is "arbitrary, capricious and illegal".

It requests the apex court to direct the Election Commission of Pakistan to expeditiously decide the question of disqualification of the respondent (Yousaf Raza Gilani) as required under the constitution.

End.
