LONDON: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) President Makhdoom Javed Hashmi has accused that his former party PML-N had become the safe haven of drug mafia, tax cheaters and discredited career politicians.

Hashmi told PTI's enthusiastic supporters at a fundraiser that PML-N had opened its door to anyone who cared to enter the party, without any regard for the meritocracy and credibility of the people. He chastised his former boss Nawaz Sharif for "not contributing even a Rupee from London or Jeddah during their years in exile to run the movement against the dictatorship of Pervez Musharraf".

"The Sharif family deserted us; they didn't care for the poor workers standing in favour of democracy. We were made to suffer under Musharraf. Perhaps Pervez Musharraf could not have lasted for nearly a decade if Nawaz Sharif had stayed in Pakistan and shown leadership," a frail and trembling Hashmi said about his former leader who was forced out of Pakistan after a bloodless coup in 1999.

Hashmi was harsh towards Nawaz Sharif in his speech which went on for an hour. He said he was naive to toe the party line and lie that Nawaz Sharif didn't know about the Kargil war and was kept in dark by the military despite the fact that Gohar Ayub Khan not only said that he was a witness that Sharif knew about it but also said so in his memoirs that Sharif propagated a lie about the war.

"But these are strange times and Gohar Ayub has been welcomed in PML-N. Hoti's son who was convicted in a US jail for 12 years is in PML-N. It has become a party of strange mix. It's a shame that Nawaz Sharif paid only Rs5 lakh in taxes. He is guilty like anyone else that's why he has opened the gates of his party to anyone and everyone. "

The former student leader turned fiery politician said that it disappointed him that his all sacrifices for the party were forgotten and when he suffered from brain attack and became partially paralysed his party was the first to drop him like a stone and didn't care for him.

Hashmi said that it was a scandal that tax-cheaters and fraudsters are allowed to represent the long-suffering people of Pakistan. "The coming elections are a real test of the PTI. We need to introduce candidates who are honest and different from the corrupt politicians. Imran Khan offers hope with is demand for all candidates to declare their taxes, no other party is doing that. It's PTI's Jehangir Tareen who pays more taxes than the whole lot of the National Assembly and the Senate put together. This is a matter of shame for all parties."

He said that Imran Khan was the harbinger of change in Pakistan, be it through the health and education projects that he is running or the spirit of pride and success he brought to the national cricket team when he captained it. He said women, overseas Pakistanis and youth of Pakistan were playing a key role in disseminating the message of Imran Khan. He said Khan's detractors were many but they cannot fool the nation through character assassination and misinformation campaigns.

Hashmi called on Pakistanis overseas to become part of the "change" movement in Pakistan and help the PTI get rid of the six families that have been ruling the country – to become multi zillionaires – for about four decades and have looted the poor people's wealth, leaving millions at the mercy of chaos and mafia style governance system.

End.
