PML-N plans grand conference of opposition parties
31 January, 2012
LAHORE: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Monday summoned a consultation meeting of party leaders to review the holding of a grand conference of opposition political parties to force the government to hold early elections, sources say. Sources said the PML-N consultation meeting scheduled today (Tuesday) is also aimed at forcing the sitting PPP government to put in place an impartial caretaker government and an independent election commission. "The meeting will chalk out final strategies regarding the holding of a grand opposition conference and review progress on the memo scandal, 20th Amendment and a joint session of parliament," they added. PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif has already held meetings with leaders of opposition parties who have assured him of their support for early elections. However, PML-N sources said the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf would not be contacted to attend the grand opposition conference. End.
