Murree: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has organized an All Parties Conference in Murree on Saturday to hold discussions regarding the nomination of a joint candidate for the presidential election.
President PML-N Shehbaz Sharif will head the meeting of the alliance at his residence in Murree.
The alliance of opposition parties includes Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA), Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Awami National Party, National Party, Qaumi Watan Party, Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) and Pak Sarzameen Party.
According to sources, PML-N categorically rejected Aitzaz Ahsan who was nominated for the president’s spot by the PPP. PML-N rejected Aitzaz’s nomination on the grounds that PPP did not consult any of the opposition parties before the decision.
PML-N will recommend fielding a joint opposition candidate to contest the presidential election that will take place on September 4.
The opposition parties will also consult on bringing a new Senate chairman and opposition leader.
The PML-N will also ask for the opposition parties’ cooperation for its ‘justice for Nawaz Sharif’ movement. The alliance will also decide on holding a strong protest outside parliament against the alleged rigging in July 25 general elections.
PPP and PML-N have been in disagreement regarding the nomination of Aitzaz Ahsan for the position of Pakistan’s president.
However, PML-N leader and former information minister Pervaiz Rashid on Friday said his party would consider supporting PPP’s candidate, Aitzaz Ahsan for the president if he visited the Adiala Jail and apologized to Nawaz Sharif for his remarks about the illness of his wife, Kulsoom Nawaz.
While talking to the media, Ahsan said that the demand put forward by PML-N is “non-serious and non-political”
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) has accepted the nomination of Dr Arif Alvi as the party’s candidate for the position of country’s president.
