PML-N MPA disqualified over rigging
10 January, 2014
SWAT: An election tribunal (ET) on Thursday disqualified a Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) member of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, Qaimoos Khan, and ordered re-election in his constituency PK-86, Upper Swat.
The tribunal presided over by Justice Shah Jee Rahman Khan accepted an election petition filed by Qaimoos's rival ANP candidate, Dr Haider Ali Khan. Qaimoos had won the May 11 general elections from PK-86 by securing 10,600 votes against 10,028 of Haider Ali. Petitioner Haider Ali Khan claimed that Qaimoos had resorted to rigging, as a result of which he lost the election.
The election tribunal disqualified Qaimoos Khan after hearing the arguments and ordered re-election in the respective constituency. Earlier, re-polling was ordered in four polling stations for women in PK-81 Swat-II after the election tribunal received an application which provided proof of mass rigging on election day.
