PM Ashraf rejects FIA wings hand over to NAB

28 September, 2012

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf has declined a proposal regarding handing over of FIA's Anti-corruption and Economic Crime Wings to National Accountability Bureau.

A summary in this regard was sent to PM, which recommended that in order to effectively deal with anti-corruption and economic crimes cases, the NAB must be invested with exclusive jurisdiction of FIA's relevant wings.

The summary argued that such a restructuring would empower NAB on top of expanding its ambit of investigation. According to sources the Chairman NAB Adm (Retd) Fasih Bukhari had sent the said summary to PM on January 20, 2012, but the PM eventually shot it down even after a long hum and haw.

End.
