PM Ashraf invites Chinese to invest in IT sector

TIANJIN - Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf on Wednesday invited the Chinese companies to invest in Pakistan's emerging information technology sector. The prime Minister was talking to the chairman and CEO of Inspur (Computing) Group, a leading Chinese multinational company, who called on him in Tianjin. The meeting was held on the side-lines of World Economic Forum's Annual Meeting of New Champions in China's port city. Raja told the Inspur CEO that there was a growing demand for advanced technology in Pakistan. He urged him to benefit from the country's investment-friendly environment by introducing new projects. The Chinese executive briefed the prime minister about his company's projects and said it wanted to invest in setting up high-performance computer centres in Pakistan at a cost of $20 million. He said the company was already working with Telenor in Pakistan and intended to expand its network related to communication and technology, in other areas as well. Meanwhile, the prime minister told media persons that the next general elections would be held on time. He said an impartial and consensus election commissioner was appointed despite the propaganda by the adversaries. The prime minister said independent judiciary, unprejudiced election commission and unfettered media were clear signal of a positive change in the country. Vowing to hold the general elections on its stipulated time, the PM noted an effort was being made to create ambiguity by spreading reports about delaying the process. End.
