PBC to take up Babar's contempt issue
07 January, 2012
ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) on Friday accepted an application to take up the issue of Babar Awan "ridiculing the judiciary". Nawaz Kharral submitted the application, saying that not only the Supreme Court but also the bar should proceed against Babar Awan because "the PBC, and not the court, has issued a licence to him". "The court has taken notice against Awan as a counsel and not a party leader; therefore the PBC is an authority to proceed against him," Kharral said. He said the PBC was the "only" authority to remove the name of Babar Awan from the roll of advocates of the Supreme Court as it issued him a licence of the court in 2000. On Thursday, the court sought an explanation from Babar Awan as to why his name should be not removed from the roll of the advocates on January 9. Sources, meanwhile, told our sources that Babar Awan was likely to defend himself against the court's second contempt notice on Monday. End.
