PBC to discuss issue of American embassy's construction

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) is going to deliberate upon the site plan, allegedly sanctioned by the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to American government in violation of law and building rules for construction of American Embassy.
The Executive Committee of Pakistan Bar Council has summoned an emergency meeting for September 18, 2013 at 2.30 pm at the Supreme Court Bar Association Building, Lahore to consider the instant matter.
According to a press release issued on Friday by PBC, it was brought to the notice of the vice-chairman and chairman executive committee, PBC that the official of the American Embassy and the US government was putting undue pressure on CDA Authorities to allegedly get a site plan sanctioned in violation of building rules for the construction of American Embassy.
It added that around 5,000 American personnel with all its latest equipment within the Red Zone area adjoining to Foreign Ministry Offices, Prime Minister Secretariat, Presidential Secretariat and all other important embassies of different countries will be accommodated at the embassy.
The PBC was further told that more than 10 petitions by different nationalists have been filed before the Supreme Court of Pakistan and have not been fixed so far, invoking the suo motu jurisdiction because the establishment of an Embassy of such huge capacity and accommodation not only amounts to interference into the national integrity of the country but also sovereignty and independence. The agenda will also include extending invitation to the print media and all anchors of different channels including foreign journalists and other important persons, added the press release.
