Over 120 minors detained in IHK since 2011

SRINAGAR: In occupied Kashmir, the authorities have detained more than 120 minors since 2011.
The 12-year old, Faizan, was the 124th minor, detained in juvenile home at Harwan on the outskirts of Srinagar since its inception in 2011, officials told a local daily.
They said that most of the minors lodged in the juvenile home since 2011 hailed from Srinagar’s old city areas.
Superintendent of juvenile home, Ghulam Ahmad Manphoo, told the daily that no record about detention of minors was maintained before the setting up of juvenile home. He said that before setting up of juvenile home, a good number of minors were detained and kept in the jurisdictions of respective police station.
A senior police official said that during the 2008 and 2010 a lot of minors were detained on the charges of stone pelting. “But no record was maintained,†he added.
The Indian police had recently arrested Faizan on fake charges of setting ablaze a police vehicle on the Eid day, last month. He was booked under various charges including waging war against India and attempt to murder.
