LAHORE: Over 110 posts of professors are lying vacant in medical institutions including Postgraduate Medical Institute (PGMI), Amiruddine Medical College (AMC) and Children hospital in the city for many years, hospital sources said here.
The vacant posts include six posts of professors, 13 posts of associate professors and around 24 posts of assistant professors are yet to be filled in Postgraduate Medical Institute and Amiruddine Medical College.
Principal PGMI Prof.Anjum Habib Vohra admitting the facts said that the institution was giving an advertisement to recruitment some vacant posts on adhoc basis for one year so that the educational loss of the medical students as well as patients could be removed.
Meanwhile, despite many advertisements given in the newspapers, 70 posts of senior cadres doctors are also lying vacant in Children Hospital for the last three years, hospital sources said here.
The vacant posts include associate professors, assistant professors and around over 30 senior registrars (SRs). However, some posts have been filled on ad hoc basis but mostly posts are lying vacant continuously.
Punjab Health department has advertised many times these posts but failed to get any positive response from the doctors' community.
When contacted Young Doctors Association leaders Dr Nasir Abbas and others to comment on this matter, they said neither senior nor medical officers were ready to do work on meagre pay scale of BPS-17,18.
They said health department officials despite over two dozens meetings with Pakistan Medical Association, YDA and Medical Teachers Association(MTA) could not evolve consensus to announce service structure of doctors.
