Opposition has nothing to offer but hooliganism: Gilani
07 June, 2012
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani on Wednesday said that opposition was making itself a laughing stock in the eyes of the people, as it has no case to put forward in parliament and has subsequently resorted to hooliganism, which is a glaring negation of the established parliamentary practices.
"Opposition is bent upon rocking the boat of democracy, but the PPP and its coalition partners will frustrate their game plan with the support of the people," Gilani said while talking to two separate delegations of PPP MNAs from Rawalpindi and Multan divisions.
The PM said that the opposition had not learnt from history, and was repeating the same mistakes. He thanked the MNAs for their support and said they should mobilise public opinion in their respective constituencies in order to make the people aware of the conspiracies against democracy.
The parliamentarians assured the PM that they would firmly stand behind the PPP leadership and not allow the opposition to derail democracy.
They said that the PPP leaders and workers had rendered numerous sacrifices and suffered hardships of unimaginable magnitude during the struggle to bring the country back on the democratic path. They maintained that democracy demanded maturity and sagacity from the elected representatives, adding that the scenes of utterly unparliamentary behaviour of the opposition on Tuesday were unfortunate, which would undermine their stature as parliamentarians and that of the party they belong to.
End.
