11 September, 2012
KARACHI: The founder and leader of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) Altaf Hussain has said that the local government system is the real spirit of democracy and opposing this system is, in fact, opposing the same. He said this while talking to the office-bearers of Lahore Zone and various districts of the Punjab at the office of the MQM Lahore zone.Hussain said that the opposition of various political parties on the introduction of the local government system in Sindh shows that these parties are not sincere in allowing the democracy to flourish for the solution of the problems being faced by the people at the grass-root level. The office-bearers of the Lahore zone told Hussain that the message of the MQM had spread to the levels of towns and tehsil and people belonging to the poor and middle classes were being attracted towards the MQM in large numbers. He asked the office-bearers to make the women wing, the labour division and other wings of the MQM functional in Punjab. He asked them to use their full potential in spreading the message of the party. He was also informed about setting up of a medical camp by the Khidmat-e-Khalq Foundation (KKF) at the annual gathering of the Christian community in Khanqah Dogran. The MQM chief praised the effort and asked the office-bearers to continue with same zeal and energy. Meanwhile, Altaf Hussain also strongly condemned the bomb blast in a vehicle at Kashmir Chowk, Parachinar. He expressed profound grief over the deaths of several persons in the barbaric incident that also caused injuries to many others. He said that the elements spilling the blood of innocent people by carrying out bomb blasts and acts of terrorism were open enemies of Islam and the country. They were conspiring to destabilise Pakistan by wanton acts of terrorism and bloodshed. Hussain said that the courage and determination of the armed forces and security forces could not be subdued by incidents of terrorism. End.
