ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf has said that the present government has promoted the politics of reconciliation and tolerance. Raja said that Pakistan People's Party (PPP) believes in democracy and genuinely feels that only democracy is the destination of the country. He was talking to former MNA Amir Yar Waran, who called on him at the Prime Minister's House. The prime minister added that a lot has been done to improve the living standard of the people, as committed in the manifesto of the PPP. He said that despite tough challenges and the impact of global economic recession, government had endeavoured to deliver and help the poor. "We inherited an economy in shambles, militancy and extremism were on rise and the state was facing the gravest danger to its existence," the prime minister noted. "Our government has provided financial assistance and targeted subsidies through the Benazir Income Support Programme to the poor, without any discrimination," Raja emphasised.
