Only democracy is our destination: Raja Ashraf

06 February, 2013

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf has said that the present government has promoted the politics of reconciliation and tolerance.

Raja said that Pakistan People's Party (PPP) believes in democracy and genuinely feels that only democracy is the destination of the country. He was talking to former MNA Amir Yar Waran, who called on him at the Prime Minister's House.

The prime minister added that a lot has been done to improve the living standard of the people, as committed in the manifesto of the PPP. He said that despite tough challenges and the impact of global economic recession, government had endeavoured to deliver and help the poor.

"We inherited an economy in shambles, militancy and extremism were on rise and the state was facing the gravest danger to its existence," the prime minister noted. He said that despite economic crunch, the present government did not compromise on developmental schemes across the country.

"Our government has provided financial assistance and targeted subsidies through the Benazir Income Support Programme to the poor, without any discrimination," Raja emphasised.

Meanwhile, Amir Yar Waran thanked the premier for allocating funds for his area. He said that people from his constituency appreciate the good work done by the present government.

End.
